Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, the two sides that played in the 1985 European Cup final were brought back together the following year in a replayed encounter in the 1989 Football League Cup Final.
Liverpool had won 2-0 in Brussels in May 1985, but the Heysel Stadium disaster tragically overshadowed what should have been a famous triumph for the Merseyside club.
Uefa decided the 1989 final between the two sides should be played on neutral territory, and the Football League Cup showpiece switched to London's Wembley Stadium in April that year.
Nottinghamshire Police tried to separate rival fans at the Heysel Stadium, but the measures were insufficient and it resulted in the deaths of 39 Juventus supporters.
The following year, both sets of supporters were kept apart at Wembley, with the Kop at one end of the ground and Forest fans at the opposite end.
Liverpool fans were still mourning the loss of their friends, family and fellow supporters, while Forest fans were keen to avenge their heavy defeat four years earlier.
Brian Clough sent his team out with the instruction to 'lump it long' and bombard the Liverpool defence with crosses, and the tactic worked to perfection in the first half.
Des Walker and Steve Hodge both scored before half time to give Forest a 2-1 lead, and although Peter Beardsley equalised after the break, Stuart Pearce's late goal sealed Forest's first League Cup triumph.
