NBA Finals Game 1: Celtics Defeat Mavericks 107-89
Luka Dončić Leads Mavericks with 30 Points in Loss
Kristaps Porzingis Returns to Boston Lineup
In a highly anticipated matchup, the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on June 6, 2024. Luka Dončić, the league's regular-season scoring champion, led the Mavericks with 30 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome a dominant performance from the Celtics.
Despite missing the last two games of the Western Conference Finals with a calf injury, Kristaps Porzingis returned to the lineup for the Mavericks. However, his presence was not enough to spark Dallas to victory. The Celtics, who went 2-0 against the Mavericks during the regular season, proved to be too much for the young Mavericks team.
The Celtics, who are now 10-0 in this year's playoffs, were led by Jayson Tatum's 28 points. Jaylen Brown added 25 points for Boston, while Marcus Smart contributed 15 points and 10 assists.
The Mavericks, who won 16 of their last 20 games to end the regular season, will look to bounce back in Game 2 on Sunday, June 8.
