Real Madrid claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Cádiz at the Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday night, extending their lead at the top of LaLiga to six points.
Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos scored the goals for Real Madrid, while Álvaro Negredo pulled one back for Cádiz.
The win takes Real Madrid's tally to 52 points from 20 games, with Sevilla remaining in contention in second place on 46 points from 19 games.
Barcelona, who drew 2-2 with Manchester United in the Europa League earlier on Thursday, remain in third place on 40 points from 19 games.
Real Madrid will now head into the World Cup break with a six-point lead at the top of the table. They will return to action on 30 December with a trip to Real Valladolid.
